Common Character Limits and Best Practices
Here are some character limits or recommendations you may encounter on the Internet:
Social Media

Facebook Post: 63,206 characters
"When Mashable asked, Lavrusik explained what that meant, exactly: You can now post a status update measuring 63,206 characters." Source: mashable.com Shorter is probably better. Buzzsumo recommends Facebook posts shorter than 50 characters; Kurt Gessler suggests there's "no one-size-fits-all approach."

LinkedIn Post: 3,000 characters

Email Preview Text: 30-100 characters (recommended)
"With desktop and webmail clients, you can get away with longer preheader text (around 50-100 characters). However, for those that read your emails on mobile, many devices display an average of only 35-50 characters, so it's better to keep it short and sweet." Source: Email on Acid. The same article includes a table of how many characters of preview text appear in different email clients; iOS Gmail showed an average of 30 characters; Gmail on the web showed an average of 119. Consider your audience when choosing a length and remember that readers' use of AI may result in something else entirely being displayed.
